The Riverside County Probation Department’s Strategic Development Bureau (SDB) is responsible for the following, Business Intelligence and Operations Services (BIOS), Legal Affairs Unit, Management Support Team (MST), Projects Unit, Staff Development Unit (SDU), and Task Forces. In addition, the SDB provides oversight of the Use of Force Committee.

BIOS provides technology and data related services to the department. The division supports all inhouse applications as well as servicing data requests related to our Case Management System.  Research staff gather data and produce a multitude of requested and mandated reports throughout the year. BIOS provides application specific training for all department staff as well as partnering agencies. The division reviews current technology to determine appropriate desktop equipment configurations, implements and supports hardware infrastructure and continually seeks out new tools to improve department efficiency and staff productivity.  BIOS maintains and supports the Probation Intranet and is the liaison to the Riverside County Information Technology Department.

The Legal Affairs Unit oversees Public Records Act requests, department Policy and Procedure and the tracking of legislation. MST is responsible for building the department’s Management System and supports all department staff in the proper use of these systems and assisting with department strategy. The Projects Unit is responsible for various reports on Day Reporting Centers, Firearms Relinquishment, Community Corrections Partnership Executive Committee, Community Correction Partnership and Annual Realignment Plan.

SDU ensures compliance with department, county, and state-mandated training. SDU is responsible for providing staff with annual training which include Standards in Training for Corrections courses such as Probation Corrections Officer Core, Deputy Probation Officer Core and Supervisor Core. They also provide Peace Officer Standards in Training courses such as PC 832 Arrest and Firearms.

The Riverside County Probation Department participates on or works directly with multi-agency task forces, that are responsible for enforcement of court ordered conditions and all applicable laws related to violent crime, street terrorism, gang-related crimes, drug-related crimes, and conditions of supervised release.
